Hawa Mahal: Our next stop was Hawa Mahal or the Palace of winds, built by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh in1799 AD. Hawa Mahal will surely overwhelm anybody - against the backdrop of the blue sky it seems to literally balance itself in the air. It is made of red and pink sandstone and the motifs are painted of quick lime. It is said to be built so that the court ladies could watch without being seen. The palace is said to be designed in the form of Krishna's crown. The side facing the street outside the palace complex has 953 small windows and the breeze which circulates through these windows gives the place its name. It definitely is an architectural wonder.
City Palace: Jaipur's City Palace is a sprawling palace right in the middle of the city and forms one of the major tourist attractions. It covers a huge area and is divided into a series of gardens, courtyards and buildings. A part of the exquisite palace is still the home for the former rulers. The palatial complex has many buildings such as Chandra Mahal, Mubarak Mahal, Mukut Mahal, Maharani's Palace etc.
